Mariah Carey Life Story May Play Broadway
01/06/2009
British newspapers are claiming that Mariah Carey is in talks to produce a Broadway stage musical about her life. The Greenlawn native is reportedly angling for singer Leona Lewis to play her, but others are being considered - including Carey herself.
Carey's rep said the report was news to her, but theater insiders told London's Daily Mirror: "Mariah's not sure if she'll star in it herself." If she doesn't, names being tossed around include 'High School Musical' star Vanessa Hudgens.
The paper says Carey is most keen on Lewis, who has both the exotic looks and eight-octave range to channel a young Mariah.
Carey's life certainly offers enough material to be another "Dreamgirls." There's her rise to the top of charts while married to then-Sony honcho Tommy Mottola, her subsequent meltdown and the recent marriage to a younger man, Nick Cannon.
In other developments from the Carey camp: it's probably safe to remove the singer from your "Baby Bump" watchlist. A bikini clad Carey was photographed drinking red wine and eating oysters seaside in St. Barts this week, Cannon at her side.
